New Iowa Ruling Protects Owner Operators

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has signed a new bill into law stating that owner-operators will automatically be classified as independent contractors. After California’s AB5 changed the work classifications of owner-operators, Iowa decided to protect this part of the trucking industry within their state. This bill protects owner-operators who own their own truck, road tractor, or truck tractor and makes them fully responsible for that vehicle. The new bill goes into effect on July 1, 2020.
