In order to build self-driving trucks, one needs to hire real drivers who help figure out how the trucks are driven. Starsky Robotics now currently has a 36 truck fleet along with 3 autonomous trucks which are monitored and driven by drivers. They also employ office workers who know how to run trucks.
With drivers in the office to assist with tricky maneuvers and learning how to build a truck that can drive itself, Starsky Robotic’s has it’s work cut out for them. Their goal is to have 25 autonomous trucks, along with 100 regular trucks, on the road by 2020.
