FMCSA Denies HOS Changes for Truckers Traveling with Animals

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has denied an Hours of Service request put forth by the Small Business in Transportation Coalition. The SBTC was asking for truckers traveling with domestic animals to operate within a 16-hour window and to drive up to 13 hours during a shift. They are claiming that those driving with pets require more time to stop, rest, and walk the animal which would cut into their overall driving time. The FMCSA declined the request because it does not meet regulatory standards for exemption and supplied no proof that it would increase the level of safety already achieved through the current HOS rules.
