Trucks are Failing Colorado’s Chain Law

Colorado State Patrol did a surprise inspection on trucks traveling along the I-70 corridor and didn’t like what they found. Out of the 171 trucks inspected, 17 of them were not carrying chains. According to Colorado’s chain law, from September 1st through May 1st along the 125-mile stretch of I-70 between Dotsero and Morrison, commercial trucks must carry chains. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, commercial vehicles have a gross weight of 26,001 pounds or more. Also, vehicles hauling 16 or more people are considered commercial. With the unpredictable winter weather through this mountain corridor, it’s important to comply with these laws in order to keep everyone safe. Click the link below to learn more about this.
