ATA is Asking Congress to Suspend Federal Excise Tax on Trucks

Currently, the federal excise tax that was imposed in 1917 to help pay for America’s military machine for World War I can add $22,000 to the price of a new tractor-trailer. Now, truckers are battling a war with COVID-19 and they are the ones keeping our country rolling along and making sure the rest of us have the supplies we need to get through this. The American Trucking Associations is asking congress to suspend this old tax to help make sure the trucking companies working hard will be able to make it through this crisis.

One of the many benefits of suspending this tax would be the encouragement of getting newer and cleaner trucks on our roads. This high tax can often keep carriers from purchasing new trucks and updating their equipment. Click the link below to learn more about this.
