Parking Trucks in Residential Neighborhoods gets a Win

There seems to be a trend going around these days where cities are banning trucks from parking in residential neighborhoods. In some extreme cases, trucks are being banned from parking anywhere in the city and must use designated truck parking only. In Richmond, Indiana, the Common Council voted 8-1 against a new ordinance banning semis from parking in private driveways. This bill would not have allowed any commercial vehicle over 12 feet to park in a private driveway, including the vehicle owner’s home.

The local truckers spoke up, stating that they should be able to park their vehicles in their driveways. It was also noted that there should be no reason to take up empty parking stops at truck stops which should be used for those who are traveling and looking for a safe place to rest.
