Inmates in South Carolina are Earning a CDL

The Lieber Correctional Institution in Charleston County, South Carolina, has inmates who are earning their CDL by “driving” on the open road. In an effort to push the state’s reentry project for inmates the SCDS Director Bryan Stirling brought in a truck simulator to teach the inmates about trucking. The President and CEO of the South Carolina Trucking Association thinks it’s a good idea because they are struggling to find truck drivers. So far, seven inmates have graduated from the program and there are 60 more expected to take it.
